Marius Hobhahn
CEO & Founder, Apollo Research
PhD Student, Methods of Machine Learning (Philipp Hennig), Tübingen AI Center
What is your connection to Tübingen, Marius?
I did a BSc in Computer Science and a BSc in Cognitive Science (2015-2018), one MSC in ML (2018-2020) and my PhD (2020-2023) in Tuebingen. The PhD was on Bayesian Machine Learning with Philipp Hennig.
Is there a memory from your time here that had a lasting positive impact on you?
I think Tuebingen was and still is by far the best place to learn about AI in Germany, arguably Europe. I was a great fan of going to all the different talks, seminars, etc. and having so much access to top professors, post-docs, PhDs, and students in the field.

Where has your career taken you since, and did your time in Tübingen play a role? If so, how?
I’ve started Apollo Research, an AI safety startup focused on risks of scheming. We work with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, and more. I’ve been recognised as a TIME100 in AI in 2025. I learned many of the foundations for my current work in Tuebingen.
