Veronika Eyring to Strengthen AI Research on Climate and Physical Systems in Tübingen

How can AI help us better understand and predict complex physical systems – from extreme weather events to carbon cycles and water resources?

Internationally renowned climate scientist and Leibniz Prize winner Veronika Eyring will bring her research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and climate science to the Tübingen AI Center. The University of Tübingen has appointed Eyring to the newly established professorship in AI for Climate and Physical Systems. Her chair will be affiliated with both the Tübingen AI Center and the connAIx Research School for Applied AI Baden-Württemberg in Heilbronn.

Veronika Eyring

Eyring develops AI methods for modelling and predicting complex physical systems, with a particular focus on the climate system. The long-term goal of her lab is to advance causal world models as a foundation for next-generation physical digital twins. At the Tübingen AI Center, Veronika Eyring's research will connect closely with fundamental AI research and open up new interdisciplinary collaborations. “The Tübingen AI Center offers internationally leading research on fundamental AI technologies. I look forward to closely connecting our work and building a wide range of important collaborations,” says Veronika Eyring. Eyring will take up her new position on September 1, 2026. She will also serve as the first of three founding directors of connAIx.
