On November 10, 2023, the time has come again: ten selected teams from all over Germany will present their AI project ideas at Freistil Tübingen (Wöhrdstraße 25), starting at 1:30 p.m. in the hope of going home with an award. This year, for the first time, a team from a German school in the US is also taking part.
For the fifth year in a row, students from secondary schools were called upon in the Federal Artificial Intelligence Competition (BWKI) to develop their own AI project, either alone or in a team of up to four people, and thus make a positive contribution to society and the environment. After the project has been submitted and evaluated by a top-class jury of researchers, makers, and experts from the field of AI applications, the physicist and moderator Philip Häusser will lead the award ceremony in the evening.
The main prizes are a cash prize of 1,500 euros and an internship at a high-tech company. There are also special prizes in the "Hardware" and "Environment and Sustainability" categories. The young talent award is intended to motivate a team that has a lot of potential but has not (yet) won. In addition, a creative beginner team will be identified to motivate programming newcomers. The school that participated most actively in BWKI's own AI online course will be named "AI School of the Year."

All those who cannot be on site themselves are cordially invited to follow the award ceremony live on YouTube starting at 7:30 p.m. (https://www.bw-ki.de/live) and to help their favorite team win the audience award by voting for them. Voting for the audience award will be possible from 6th November – stay tuned by checking https://bw-ki.de.
The national competition was launched in 2018 at what is now the Tübingen AI Center and has since encouraged young people to actively demonstrate their skills in the AI research environment. The competition is under the patronage of Minister President Winfried Kretschmann. The main sponsor is the Carl Zeiss Foundation. Further information at: https://bw-ki.de.
This year, the BWKI finals will take place during the "Science & Innovation Days" science festival hosted by the University of Tübingen and other partner organizations. The festival program and further information are now available at www.sidays.com.
