Transportation and Mobility
In Tübingen, there are several transportation options for getting around the city. In the following subsection, we will inform you about the various options available, their advantages and disadvantages, and any discounts you might be eligible for.
Public Transport
It's easy to live in Tübingen without a car. Tübingen has an excellent bus network, and shorter distances can easily be covered on foot or by bike, thanks to the many bike lanes in the city.
Buses in Tübingen are part of the network operated by the regional transport company "Naldo." The Naldo area stretches from the southern part of Stuttgart down to Lake Constance (Bodensee) on the border with Switzerland.
As part of an initiative by the City of Tübingen, bus service within the town is free on Saturdays (from 12:00 a.m. on Saturday to 5:00 a.m. on Sunday) to encourage people to visit Tübingen and leave their cars outside of town.
Discounts or benefits for public transportation:
- Semester Ticket (interesting for Erasmus or Ms/Bs students)
- Jobticket
- Bahncard
The Jobticket is a travel pass subsidized by your employer that allows you to use local and regional public transport. It is designed to help employees commute to work in an environmentally friendly way.
For more information and details on how to order the Jobticket, please see here.
Jobticket Requirements:
For university employees:
- staff number (Personalnummer)
- file two applications to the LBV and Naldo

Cars
If you plan to come to the office by car, here are a few suggestions on where to park.
The parking spaces in the garage of Maria-von-Linden-Straße 6 are managed by the Parkraumgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg. The cost is approximately 43 EUR per month per car (to be paid privately). You can find more information and apply for a parking spot here: PBW Website. You will need to create an account with PBW and file an application (choose the option for “Landesbedienstete,” which means state employees).
There are also public parking spaces around the building and within walking distance, as well as a large parking garage in Paul-Ehrlich-Straße.
If you are employed at the university or Max Planck institute and work in the north part of the city, you can submit a request for a monthly parking pass for street parking for 50 EUR per month. You can view the zone map and apply online: https://www.tuebingen.de/verwaltung/verfahren#parkgebuehren
